His Family

Eugene has an incredible amount of respect and admiration for his parents, Felix and Joyce Wong.

Felix and Joyce have devoted their lives to helping Eugene succeed and excel in his golfing career. He continues to be inspired by their unbounded love and support.

Eugene’s father, Felix, has guided him on this incredible journey every step of the way. Since witnessing his son wielding a toy plastic club at the age of 3, Felix has committed himself to ensuring Eugene’s success in the sport.

While Eugene’s natural ability is undeniable, it has been his father’s guidance that brought out the inner champion in Wong. Felix has been Eugene’s swing coach since he was a child. “He knows my swing inside and out, and can always identify what I need to improve on.”

The Champion

In 2012, Eugene completed one of the most miraculous and spectacular shots in tournament history to win the PGA TOUR Canada Championship.
Sitting one shot back of the leader on the par four 18th fairway, Eugene stared down the flag from 133 yards out. He fired at the pin striking the ball dead on line. It hit about six feet in front of the hole, took one bounce and dropped in for the eagle, securing Wong his first professional career victory.
Eugene earned $16,000 for the win and a two-year exemption on the PGA TOUR Canada. He finished at a 14-under par total.
The victory came in just his third start on the PGA TOUR Canada, after turning pro only one month earlier. It is one that Eugene and golf fans across the country will not soon forget.

The Machine

  • Nicknamed “The Machine” for his machine-like consistency and accuracy, Eugene’s ability to produce identical form time and time again has helped him become one of the best Canadian amateur golfers on tour.
  • In 2010, The Machine was recognized as Canada’s top male amateur golfer when Golf Canada announced the final standings for the 2010 National Order of Merit.
  • Wong’s elevation to the top amateur spot in 2010, was a huge step up from his 9th place finish in 2009.
  • Wong, a former B.C. Amateur Champion, B.C Junior Champion and Junior Worlds Champion, was also a member of Team Canada’s Squad.

The Passion

  • Eugene’s undying enthusiasm for golf is something that has been with him since a very young age. He has spent his entire life training and honing his skills, and is determined to make it on tour as a PGA professional.
  • Eugene’s passion for the Oregon Ducks’ family is also something that will remain with him – even when he goes pro. He has already stated that he plans to carry his school colours with him while on tour.
  • Eugene’s coach at the University of Oregon, Casey Martin, a former PGA TOUR pro, looked north (to Canada) in his 2008 recruitment efforts, and was blown away by the talent and potential he saw in Wong. “Eugene was the best junior golfer in Canada,” said Martin, “to get him to come to Oregon was just tremendous.”
